- Vintage handmade scrap patchwork utility quilt, estimated to date from approximately the 1940s–1960s
- Measures approximately 72” x 81”
- Constructed in a simple one-patch design using hundreds of individually pieced fabric squares
- Wonderful assortment of vintage fabrics including florals, ginghams, checks, polka dots, paisleys, stripes and small-scale prints
- Color palette includes deep teal and blue, red, brown, gray, cream, aqua, black and touches of pink and purple
- Fabrics appear to be primarily cotton and include what were likely remnants from clothing, household sewing and other projects
- Quilt top appears to be machine pieced
- Layers are secured with traditional hand-tied cream yarn ties throughout rather than all-over quilting
- Backed in a small-scale blue, brown and cream woven check fabric
- Lightweight, soft and nicely worn from age and use
- A wonderful example of an everyday utility quilt made from available scraps rather than a formally planned quilt pattern
- Displays beautifully folded over a chair, at the foot of a bed, over the back of a sofa or stacked with other vintage textiles
- Vintage condition with noticeable age-related wear including some staining
- Freshly laundered and air dried
- Several fabrics have areas of thinning, small holes and fabric loss; one area near an edge has more significant fraying and deterioration
- Additional scattered wear and small imperfections are present throughout, consistent with the quilt’s age and history of use
- Edge wear is also present
- Please review photos closely for condition details
- The worn areas are part of the character of this old utility quilt and do not detract from its beautiful overall presentation
