  • Vintage handmade scrap patchwork utility quilt, estimated to date from approximately the 1940s–1960s
  • Measures approximately 72” x 81”
  • Constructed in a simple one-patch design using hundreds of individually pieced fabric squares
  • Wonderful assortment of vintage fabrics including florals, ginghams, checks, polka dots, paisleys, stripes and small-scale prints
  • Color palette includes deep teal and blue, red, brown, gray, cream, aqua, black and touches of pink and purple
  • Fabrics appear to be primarily cotton and include what were likely remnants from clothing, household sewing and other projects
  • Quilt top appears to be machine pieced
  • Layers are secured with traditional hand-tied cream yarn ties throughout rather than all-over quilting
  • Backed in a small-scale blue, brown and cream woven check fabric
  • Lightweight, soft and nicely worn from age and use
  • A wonderful example of an everyday utility quilt made from available scraps rather than a formally planned quilt pattern
  • Displays beautifully folded over a chair, at the foot of a bed, over the back of a sofa or stacked with other vintage textiles
